- Abstract
Lengko Ajang Church, located in Lengko Ajang Hamlet, Golo Wangkung Village, Congkar District, East Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, is one of the oldest churches in the Manggarai Raya area. The church was built by Fr. Wihelmus Janssen, SVD, in the 1930s using wooden materials. The architectural style of this church was thought to be a combination of mbaru gendang (Manggarai vernacular architecture) and European church architecture at that time. The purpose of this research is to examine the architectural elements of Lengko Ajang church based on literature sources of traditional Manggarai architecture and European church architecture that developed in the 1930s. By using the literature method, the results show that this church not only functions as a place of worship, but also as a symbol of identity for the Manggarai people. The architectural change of Lengko Ajang Church is an in-tegration between the local tradition of mbaru gendang architecture and colo-nial influence, which illustrates the dynamic nature of cultural identity in architecture.
