- Abstract
The global manufacturing sector faces escalating pressure to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining operational efficiency. This study proposes a novel framework integrating IoT-enabled predictive maintenance and AI- driven energy optimization to achieve carbon neutrality in industrial operations. Existing literature highlights gaps in scalable, technology-driven solutions for real-time emissions tracking and resource allocation. Leveraging quantitative data analysis of energy consumption patterns across various manufacturing units, this research develops a Smart Manufacturing Index (SMI) to evaluate sustainability metrics. The framework employs digital twin simulations to model low-carbon production processes, reducing waste by 22% and energy use by 18% in pilot implementations. Results demonstrate that AI-guided automation streamlines workflows, while IoT sensors enable predictive maintenance, minimizing downtime and emissions. The research provides an industry with a replicable model to align with SDGs 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). Focusing on the closed-loop production and renewable energy integration, the framework provides such strategies to achieve net-zero goals without posing a threat to productivity.
