- Abstract
Empowering rural women has been and continues to be the key in achieving sustainable development. This Paper investigates creative approaches to empowering rural women with sustainable and diversified livelihoods. The sustainable livelihood strategies fostering economic independence, social inclusion, and improved well-being of women are examined in the study. It synthesizes insights derived from the existing literature, case studies, and best practices from around the world and the Indian context, and through this, proposes an integrative model for rural women’s empowerment. Key enablers adjusting the adverse impact of seasonality include skill enhancement, micro-enterprises, digital interventions, and agricultural diversification—all as highlighted in the proposed framework. It offers insights to policy makers and practitioners to promote gender equity and sustainable development. The lack of primary data restricts the validation of the proposed framework. That includes efforts to build capacity, establish partnerships, and create incentive structures for private actors, as highlighted in the Paper and its Model. Innovation: It synergizes sustainability and livelihood diversification to contribute to a comprehensive framework for enhancing rural women’s empowerment.
