- Abstract
The energy transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is a significant geopolitical challenge, given the economic dependence of these countries on hydrocarbon exports. This study uses a classical realism approach to analyze the impact of the energy transition on regional political dynamics and global alliances and explores the role of MENA countries in renewable energy integration. The methodology used is a systematic literature review of various reports and articles. The results show that despite the great opportunities in the renewable energy sector, political, economic, and infrastructure challenges remain major bottlenecks. This study provides important insights for policymakers and energy actors in understanding geopolitical changes in the MENA region due to the energy transition.
