Abstract

Labuan Bajo, a Super Priority Tourism Destination in East Nusa Tenggara and gateway to Komodo Island, has undergone economic, social, and spatial changes but still faces major challenges. High living costs are unmatched by local incomes, unemployment remains, and basic infrastructure such as clean water, electricity, internet, and roads is uneven. Human resource quality also needs improvement through better education. This study, using qualitative field surveys, highlights the crucial role of social capital—networks, trust, solidarity, and community leadership—in supporting community-based tourism and addressing environmental issues.
