- Abstract
This study examines the experiences of Muslim women workers in Japan as they navigate workplace discrimination and employ counter-labelling strategies to assert their professional and religious identities. Using semi-structured interviews and digital ethnography of social media platforms such as TikTok, the research identifies the patterns of discrimination, and the creative strategies used to resist labeling. Findings show that counter-labelling allows women to maintain agency, navigate social stereotypes, and foster professional recognition despite persistent bias. The study contributes to labor migration, gender studies, and religious diversity research, highlighting the importance of workplace inclusivity.
