Abstract

The swift rise of immersive technologies has revolutionised workplace collaboration, setting the stage for augmented reality (AR) to drive team innovation, productivity and virtual co-working spaces. Previous research has examined the promise of AR but most research corroborating AR, or investigating its potential, has either been lacking in empirical validation, practical application, or a targeted assessment of workplace performance measures. Moreover, several studies are theoretical, business-oriented in nature, or have specific limitations and do not tackle significant scaling, accessibility, and user experience issues. This article connects these scales by systematically analyzing AR collaboration platforms, and contributing a data-informed framework for their impact assessment of cooperation, engagement, and efficiency. An actual experimental setup is established for evaluating important performance metrics (i.e., cognitive load, task completion time, and interaction efficiency). They show that AR-based collaboration tools greatly improve communication, problem-solving effectiveness and professional engagement. This research strives to offer an effective model to incorporate AR in different industry along with optimal accessibility and scalability. Through empirical exploration and pragmatic implications, the study enriches the ongoing dialogue surrounding immersive technologies and positions AR as a paradigm-shifting agent in the evolution of collaboration in the future workplace.
