Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has not only changed the way humans work and learn. Still, it has also opened up new space for Islamic preaching in the digital realm. As the young generation of Muslims, students have great potential to utilize AI to spread Islamic values more widely and effectively. However, these abilities are not always present in a balanced way in every aspect of competence. This research aims to describe the extent to which Medan State University students can utilize AI for virtual da’wah activities by reviewing four main elements: cognitive, technical, affective, and psychomotor. The research was carried out using a descriptive quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to 60 students taking Islamic Religious Education courses in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The research results show that students’ cognitive aspects are in the medium category, technical elements are high, while affective and psychomotor aspects are in the low category. These findings show that students are technically competent enough to use AI, but still need to deepen their knowledge, strengthen their religious attitudes, and develop practical skills to produce meaningful preaching content. Therefore, this research recommends the integration of AI-based learning into the Islamic Religious Education curriculum, which not only focuses on technical skills but also fosters spiritual awareness and real abilities in preaching in cyberspace.
