Abstract

This article explores the principles, methodologies, and benefits associated with the development of digital encyclopedias as educational media, drawing extensively from recent research. Digital encyclopedias are identified as highly valuable tools for media development, particularly in technology-focused educational environments, capable of significantly improving students’ critical thinking skills and overall learning outcomes. The development process typically follows structured research and development (R&D) models such as ADDIE or Borg and Gall, encompassing stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. These stages involve comprehensive data collection through observations, interviews, and questionnaires, followed by expert validation and user trials to ensure the product’s quality, feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness. Digital encyclopedias are lauded for their ability to present information in an engaging, interactive, and visually rich format, incorporating text, graphics, audio, video, and animation, making learning more enjoyable and accessible. While the general principles of developing and evaluating digital encyclopedias are universally applicable, it is important to note that the provided sources predominantly focus on the development of such educational tools for Indonesian history, local cultural wisdom, and other social studies topics within the Indonesian educational system. Therefore, specific content, historical narratives, or pedagogical examples pertaining to “American History” are not derived from the given source material.
