Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of teachers in implementing multicultural education at the Islamic Center Foundation of North Sumatra. Multicultural education is essential in shaping students’ character to be tolerant, inclusive, and respectful of cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation. The findings show that teachers play a strategic role as facilitators, motivators, and role models in instilling multicultural values. In practice, teachers actively integrate multicultural content into learning, create spaces for open dialogue among students, and foster a classroom culture that embraces differences. Teachers also act as mediators in resolving conflicts related to students’ diverse backgrounds. However, challenges remain, including the lack of specialized training and the limited availability of contextual teaching materials. These findings confirm that strengthening teachers’ capacity is a key factor in the successful implementation of multicultural education in faith-based schools.
