Abstract

The present study investigates the impact of digital resources on the reading habits of undergraduate students at Rangia College, Assam. With the rapid advancement of information and communication technologies, the educational landscape has shifted from traditional print-based reading to digital formats such as e-books, online journals, and academic databases. The study adopted a descriptive research design using a case study approach, involving 420 undergraduate students selected through stratified random sampling across four streams—Arts, Science, Commerce, and B.Voc. Primary data were collected via a Google Form-based questionnaire and analyzed using Microsoft Excel, Julius, and SPSS software. The findings reveal that the majority of students rely heavily on digital resources for academic purposes, particularly assignments, examinations, and research work, accounting for over 60% of reading activities. Female students displayed a higher inclination toward academic digital usage, whereas male students exhibited greater engagement in research-oriented reading. Despite widespread digital adoption, many respondents still prefer print materials for deeper comprehension and long reading sessions. The study also identified key challenges such as eye strain, distraction, and dependence on internet connectivity, which hinder effective digital engagement. Overall, the research highlights that while digital resources significantly enhance accessibility, efficiency, and academic performance, there remains a need for balanced integration of print and digital modes. The study recommends digital literacy initiatives and ergonomic reading practices to ensure sustainable and effective learning outcomes in the digital era.
