Abstract

The increasing prevalence of English as a global lingua franca has significantly influenced academic and professional communication worldwide. This study investigates the impact of global English use within SunUni Academy’s International English Center, a multicultural institution that prepares learners for international academic and workplace settings. The research aims to assess how English proficiency affects students’ academic performance, professional preparedness, and intercultural competence. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys of 50 students. Findings indicate that high English proficiency correlates with improved academic achievement and confidence in professional communication, particularly in fields such as business, science, and technology. However, challenges such as linguistic insecurity, cultural misunderstandings, and over reliance on standardized English norms were also reported. Notably, students from non-native English backgrounds reported greater stress in adapting to global English standards, though they also demonstrated strong resilience and motivation to improve. The study concludes that while global English use enhances access to academic and professional opportunities, it must be supported by culturally responsive teaching and inclusive language practices. SunUni Academy is encouraged to continue promoting English learning while also valuing linguistic diversity and providing support systems for learners from various backgrounds.
