- Abstract
The signage system in public spaces plays a crucial role in guiding visitors to their intended destinations, ensuring clarity, safety, and accessibility. In Indonesia, hospital signage design and implementation are regulated by the Ministry of Health and BPJS Kesehatan, which establish standardized guidelines to promote effective visual communication in healthcare environments. This study aims to analyze the existing signage system at Royal Prima General Hospital Medan, with a specific focus on the Emergency Department or Instalasi Gawat Darurat (IGD), the first and most critical point of patient care. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research compares the hospital’s current signage with national regulatory standards and visual communication principles. The findings are expected to contribute to both the design discipline and the healthcare sector by identifying how well-designed signage can enhance user navigation, patient safety, and the overall communication system within hospital facilities.
