- Abstract
East Kalimantan is the largest coal-producing island in Indonesia. Many coal companies are digging for profits in the Kalimantan Forest. Still, when the coal has run out, it will be left alone and damaged in the Kalimantan Tropical Rainforest. So, we focus on designing Void Tourism and outbound activities from the mining area. Utilizing the contours and voids created by coal mining activities, this area was restored and developed into a tourist attraction that plays a role in repairing damage to the land. The restoration of post-mining land needs to pay attention to environmental restoration and sustainability aspects. Post-mining land must be managed with the right design so that the activities can improve environmental conditions and restore the condition of the ecosystem. The area’s design must also consider the local community’s technical, social, economic, and cultural aspects. This research was conducted in an area owned by PT Anugerah Bara Kaltim in Loa Janan, Kutai Kartanegara, to find the ideal design concept and approach for developing this area. The results of this study are to achieve ideal communal space design results, conceptual collaboration is required between spatial aspects, user needs aspects, and local land and climate conditions.
