Abstract

This paper focuses on the Shandong Peninsula Urban Agglomeration, utilizing NPP/VIIRS nighttime light data, and employs Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) Models to analyze the spatiotemporal patterns and driving factors of nighttime vitality in this urban agglomeration from 2000 to 2023. The study found that the nighttime vitality of the Shandong Peninsula Urban Agglomeration exhibits a “core-periphery” differentiation pattern, with high-vitality regions centered around Qingdao, Jinan, and Zibo, while peripheral cities exhibit lower vitality. From 2000 to 2023, the nighttime vitality pattern evolved from “core isolation” to “core-linked-synergistic,” with medium-to-high vitality regions continuing to expand, and a significant trend toward urban agglomeration integration. In terms of driving factors, the influence of per capita disposable income, energy consumption intensity, population density, and slope on nighttime vitality exhibits significant spatial heterogeneity. This study provides theoretical support and decision-making references for the nighttime development planning and urban quality enhancement of the Shandong Peninsula Urban Agglomeration.
