- Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to explore the salient factors that drive individuals’ proclivity to adopt digital banking services. It is vital for the banking industry to comprehend and forecast the factors influencing online banking adoption by individuals.
Design/Methodology/Approach – The study tested hypotheses using an extended version of TAM (Technology Acceptance Model) by employing Perceived cost, Perceived trust, Perceived risk, and Social influence along with the basic constructs of TAM i.e. Perceived usefulness and Perceived ease of use. The measurement items for the six constructs were adopted from prior studies and the instrument was tested for reliability and validity.
Findings – The study found Social Influence to be the most significant factor positively influencing customer’s propensity to opt for digital banking services followed by Perceived Trust, Perceived Risk, Perceived Usefulness, and Perceived Ease of use. The construct of Perceived Cost exhibited a significant negative influence on the intention of individuals to adopt internet-based banking services.
Practical Implications – Practitioners, policymakers, and bank managements can draw useful insights and pragmatic inferences from the study. The findings of the study can guide banks in the formulation of strategies that can foster the adoption of digital banking products by individuals and help in the growth and expansion of the banking business.
Originality/Value – The study has outlined the significant factors that drive the propensity of individuals to adopt digitalized banking services. It will assist banks in improving their digital services bouquet to make it more acceptable to people thereby enabling banks to strengthen their competitive positioning in the market.
