- Abstract
This study explores ecocriticism in Amitav Ghosh’s novels, with a particular focus on Gun Island, The Hungry Tide, The Glass Palace, and The Shadow Lines. It examines how Ghosh portrays the intricate relationship between humans and the environment, addressing themes such as colonial exploitation of natural resources, climate change, and displacement. Using a qualitative research approach, the study analyzes these novels through an ecocritical lens, highlighting Ghosh’s advocacy for ecological awareness and his critique of environmental degradation. The findings reveal a nuanced understanding of environmental issues, as Ghosh intertwines cultural, historical, and ecological narratives to challenge readers’ perceptions of nature and human responsibility. By offering an in-depth exploration of Ghosh’s engagement with environmental themes, this research contributes to the growing field of ecocriticism.
