Abstract

Local fashion identity in Indonesia has evolved from deep-rooted traditions, aesthetic ideals, and indigenous wisdom. Cultural fashion elements such as batik, woven fabrics, songket, and kebaya represent not only aesthetic expressions but also serve as enduring symbols of social and cultural heritage passed down through generations. This research aims to bridge the gap by investigating the influence of creative economy practices in the reconstruction of local fashion identity through cultural innovation. This study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, which is systematic, explicit, and reproducible in identifying, analyzing, and synthesizing scholarly works from academic and professional sources. A total of 198 studies were initially identified, from which 13 articles were found to be directly relevant to the research focus. After further screening, 10 studies were included in the final analysis. The reviewed literature highlights the crucial role of the creative economy and cultural innovation in revitalizing local couture through digitalization, design modernization, and cultural preservation efforts. Findings reveal that creative economy practices foster a sustainable model for cultural heritage transformation by combining traditional craftsmanship with modern entrepreneurship. However, gaps remain in the contextual understanding of how local identity can adapt to global fashion dynamics while preserving authenticity. This study underscores the significance of integrating creative economy strategies to reconstruct local fashion identity in Indonesia. It provides both theoretical and practical insights for policymakers, academics, and industry stakeholders to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global creative industry while safeguarding cultural values.
