Abstract

This study investigated the entrepreneurial readiness of nutrition students who participated in a project-based entrepreneurship course at a public university in Indonesia. Using hierarchical cluster analysis with Ward’s method on theory of planned behaviour (TPB) scores from 119 students, four readiness profiles were found. The Proactive-Ready group (29.4%) scored high on all TPB dimensions and had the strongest inclination toward near-term venture creation. The Supported-Ambivalent group (39.5%), which was the largest, showed a noticeable gap between perceived social support and personal self-efficacy. The Exploratory Developing group (21.8%) had moderate scores and the lowest rate of prior business experience. The non-entrepreneurial group (9.2%) had low personal attitudes and entrepreneurial intention despite moderate social norm scores. Family business background was not significantly related to profile membership (Ο‡2 = 2.082, p = 0.556, V = 0.132), but it was significantly associated with the venture timing preferences (Ο‡2 = 12.854, p = 0.012, V = 0.329; Monte Carlo p = 0.010), as all students planning to start a business immediately after graduation came from entrepreneurial families. Prior business experience was significantly related to profile membership (Ο‡2 = 10.740, p = 0.013, V = 0.300; Monte Carlo p = 0.012). These findings suggest that hands-on experience matters more than passive family exposure in shaping readiness, and that the largest subgroup of students showed a pattern that may be suggestive of a tension between social encouragement and personal self-efficacy, although this interpretation needs to be confirmed through direct measurement of professional identity in future studies.
