Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the main factors that influence the length of stay of tourists in Garut Regency by adapting the findings of international literature studies from various countries, such as Japan, Sweden, South Africa, and Brazil, and formulate initial strategies for tourism development in Garut Regency. Through a systematic literature review approach, four most influential strategic factors were found, namely: (1) transportation accessibility and connectivity, (2) quality of accommodation and supporting facilities, (3) cultural experiences and local interactions, and (4) perception of destination safety and comfort. Contextual analysis shows that Garut Regency has great potential through natural tourism, culture, and superior MSME products, but the average duration of tourist stay is still relatively short due to limited infrastructure, service quality, and packaging of cultural attractions. The results of the study recommend an integrated tourism development strategy based on local potential, including improving transportation access, developing cultural and nature-based thematic lodging, preparing an annual cultural event calendar, and improving destination security management. Synergistic implementation among stakeholders is expected to be able to extend the duration of tourist visits, increase their spending, and provide sustainable economic impacts for the community as well as Garut Regency's Original Revenue (PAD).
