- Abstract
Through the lens of Interaction Ritual Chains theory, this study investigates classroom silence in higher education, emphasizing the dynamics of teacher-student interactions in shared learning environments. It explores how efforts to achieve academic and cognitive alignment are disrupted by a “silence trap” caused by shallow interactions, misaligned identities, unfocused collective attention, and weakened emotional ties. Four strategies are proposed to address silence and enhance teaching interactions: promoting full physical and psychological engagement, creating ritual barriers to strengthen identity alignment, prioritizing core course content for focused discussions, and building emotional connections through positive emotional energy. These strategies seek to foster an inclusive, vibrant educational environment, transforming the interactional landscape of higher education and supporting talent development.
