Abstract

To address the issue of incoherence in figurative expression resources in multilingual corpora, this paper proposes a method for constructing a figurative resource library in multilingualism that can align across languages with the emphasis on the coordination of linguistic structural differences and cultural accommodation for figurative language in natural language processing (NLP). Most of the existing study relies heavily on a monolingual corpus for metaphor recognition and comprehension, but this is ineffective in multilingual NLP. To this end, this paper will design a set of hybrid alignment frameworks that utilize a combination of multilingual BERT semantic embedding, syntactic tree structure matching and cultural context reconceptualization strategies to eventually achieve metaphorical mapping across three levels: lexical, structural and semantic. The corpora will be selected from hybrid genres of news reports, literature, and educational text types from Chinese, English and Japanese that covers a wide variety of registers and cultural backgrounds. In the experimental phase, the proposed model demonstrates high alignment accuracy and cultural adaptation, and the LLM-assisted evaluation results exhibit high reliability with the human scoring, and demonstrates large scale feasibility and future capacity for the method.
