Abstract

Socah Village has a huge potential of fisheries resources, one of which is mullet (Family: Mugilidae). Research on the biological aspect of mullets in Socah Waters has not been carried out, so it is necessary to research the frequency of length and weight, the length at first capture (Lc=Lc50%), and the length at first maturity (L =Lm50). The purpose of this research is that the data on the biological aspect of mullets will be used as a reference for mullet resource management efforts in Socah Waters, Bangkalan Regency, East Java. The research method used is a quantitative method with random sampling. Sampling was done 6 times during September to October 2024. The results obtained were the distribution of the frequency of length and weight of mullets ranging from 8.6–34 cm and 10–318 g. The length at first capture (Lc) ranged from 14 cm. The value of the length at first maturity (Lm) ranged from 21 cm and the gonadal maturity level of mullet was 136 fish at Stage I, 228 fish at Stage II, 83 fish at Stage III, and 34 fish at Stage IV. The value of Lc < Lm which means that the majority of mullets caught are immature gonads. Therefore, the fishing gear used by mullet fishermen consists of traditional equipment, namely a blue-light flashlight and a net with a diameter of 60 cm. This gear is considered harmful to the sustainability of mullet resources in the Socah waters, as the light is unable to selectively target fish species or sizes. As a result, many juvenile fish with immature gonads are caught.
