Abstract

Fishes from the Lethrinidae family are demersal fish that have important economic value and are widely found in tropical waters, including in Maluku waters. The propose of this study is to inventory fishes from the Lethrinidae Family that are sold at Mardika Market, Ambon, Indonesia. This research was conducted from July 2024 to January 2025. The fish specimens collected randomly from Mardika fish market, Ambon, Maluku from July 2024 – January 2025. All specimens collected then analyzed. A total of 16 specimens preserved, identified, analyzed morphometrically and meristically. Fish samples with a total sample of 16 specimens. The results showed that there were seven species found, which come from two genera, namely, Gymnocranius and Lethrinus. Those species were which are Gymnocranius griseus, Lethrinus miniatus, Lethrinus atkinsoni, Lethrinus harak, Lethrinus lentjan, Lethrinus obsoletus and Lethrinus ornatus. Lethrinus miniatus has the largest number of specimens (5 specimens). The comparison between morphometric and meristic components shows that the values obtained are still within the range of previous research studies. This study provides additional information on the diversity of Lethrinidae and also be used for further research on the ecology, conservation, and utilization of Lethrinidae fishes in the Maluku waters.
