Abstract

The development of subject matter, teaching materials, and learning resources is an essential part of curriculum design and development, and it is comprehensively integrated into learning instruments. Each component possesses specific characteristics. Therefore, this study provides a comprehensive discussion on these components. It aimed to develop subject matter, teaching materials, and learning resources for the Sociology of Art course that facilitate the competencies required by students. The development is focused on the Sociology of Art course offered by the Department of Fine Arts Education, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Medan. This study employed a research and development method that encompassed procedures for analysis, design, development, implementation, validation, and evaluation. Based on the results of the study, the subject matter was developed by integrating an OBE-based curriculum that emphasizes future-oriented competencies, new literacies, and 21st-century skills. Furthermore, the development of the teaching material involved the integration of relevant primary references, such as reputable research articles. The learning resources integrated real-life, manual materials with digital and virtual sources, global information, and communication technologies.
