Abstract

The study aims to analyze the impact of AI translation tools on Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategies in English Language Learning. It is necessary to integrate AI technologies in education, particularly understanding how AI translation tools affect students’ planning, monitoring, and evaluating their language improvement. The method used in this study is a mixed-methods approach, examining the students’ frequency, purpose, and perceptions in using AI translation tools at Universitas Negeri Medan and Universiti Sains Malaysia. It focuses on evaluating the extent to which AI translation impacts students’ SRL practice, which includes students’ autonomy, motivation, and language skill improvement. Then, the study also identifies potential limitations. The results of the study provide some insights about effective strategies for integrating AI translation tools into EFL learning to improve development of autonomous language. This study provides a contribution to the theoretical understanding and practical application of AI used toward students’ Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategies.
