Abstract

This research examines the role of digital literacy in addressing bullying in elementary schools. Focusing on students in grades 4 to 6 in Demak Regency, the study employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to explore the dynamics of bullying behavior and the impact of digital literacy. The findings reveal that verbal bullying is the most prevalent form and often escalates into cyberbullying through social media. Key contributing factors include group dynamics, family influence, mass media, the school environment, and the need to maintain self-esteem. Digital literacy emerges as a potential solution for preventing and addressing bullying. Grounded in Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) social ecological theory and Bandura’s (1977) social learning theory, digital literacy encompasses understanding digital ethics, digital safety, and positive communication skills. The implementation of a digital literacy program has proven effective in raising students’ awareness of online risks, enhancing their ability to protect themselves, and encouraging them to report bullying incidents. In conclusion, fostering digital literacy can significantly reduce bullying incidents and support the mental health of victims. This study recommends integrating digital literacy into elementary school curricula, providing teacher training, and promoting collaboration between schools and parents to create safe and inclusive learning environments.
