Abstract

Couples’ marital satisfaction plays an important role in family life. However, for Madurese migrant couples in long-distance marriage, maintaining and enhancing marital satisfaction becomes a challenge that requires significant effort. This study aims to explore how Madurese migrant couples can enhance their marital satisfaction during a long-distance marriage. This study uses qualitative research which involving 20 research participants consisting of 17 main participants and 3 people as significant others. Data collection is conducted using in-depth interviews through the snowball sampling technique. Data analysis is conducted using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) developed by Jonathan Smith, and the credibility of the research results is verified through the member check technique. This study uses the marital satisfaction theory developed by Blaine J. Fowers and David H. Olson in analyzing the marital satisfaction of Madurese migrant couples during long-distance relationships. The results of the study indicate that digital connectedness is a strategy employed by Madurese migrant couples to maintain and enhance marital satisfaction in a long-distance marriage. The findings also reveal that openness, conflict management, and financial management are additional efforts implemented in this process. However, all research participants agreed that digital connectedness is the most effective strategy for improving their marital satisfaction, including facilitating some of these other efforts. This study is important and unique because of the high number of Madurese migrants and the lack of similar research with positive results for Madurese migrant couples in enhancing their marital satisfaction during long-distance relationships.
