Abstract

This chapter presents the PAEDU Protocol as a strategy for inclusive, critical and distributed leadership implemented at IES Can Balo, the school re-sponsible for formal education within the Juvenile Justice Centres for Minors in the Balearic Islands. Against a backdrop of extreme educational exclusion, the text analyses how the leadership team articulates inclusive education, social justice and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) through a sequential seven-stage process aimed at identifying barriers, getting to know the students, designing universal curriculum proposals, implementing them, evaluating them and continuously refining them. Based on the case study, it is shown that pedagogical leadership not only organises and coordinates, but also distributes responsibilities, promotes teacher collabo-ration and fosters the transformation of the school’s culture, policies and practices. The PAEDU is thus proposed as a transferable framework to pro-mote more equitable, participatory and inclusive schools, capable of responding more justly to the diversity and vulnerability of the student body.
