Abstract

This project aims to compare the performance and implementation complexity of the Array Multiplier and Vedic multiplier, two key algorithms in digital multiplication. Hardware models for both multipliers will be developed using Verilog. The designs will be simulated to verify functionality and tested with a variety of input sizes and values. Performance metrics such as speed, area, and power consumption will be measured and compared to determine the strengths and weaknesses of each multiplier. The Array Multiplier is typically simpler and straightforward but may require more hardware resources. The Vedic multiplier, based on ancient Indian mathematics, is known for its efficiency and speed, often requiring fewer computational steps and less hardware. The project facilitate experiential learning on the trade-offs between the Array and Vedic multipliers, aiding in the understanding of their practical considerations for digital system design. By analysing the performance characteristics of both multipliers under various conditions, the project aims to highlight the potential applications and limitations of each approach. Comparison results will be valuable for engineers and designers in selecting the appropriate multiplication algorithm for specific digital system requirements. Additionally, the project will explore the scalability of both multipliers for larger input sizes, providing a comprehensive understanding of their performance in real-world scenarios.
