- Abstract
Navigating safely and independently is a significant challenge for visually impaired individuals, especially in crowded or unfamiliar environments. By creating a real-time navigation tool intended to improve mobility and independence, our work tackles this problem. The system employs a single camera to capture visual data, which is processed using advanced object recognition and spatial awareness techniques. It detects obstacles, estimates distances, and provides audio-based feedback to guide users safely through various settings. By integrating these functionalities into a simple and cost-effective design, the solution remains accessible and affordable for broader adoption.
This work focuses on real-time processing to ensure seamless navigation assistance, offering timely alerts about potential collisions or hazards. It demonstrates the potential of camera-based assistive technologies to bridge gaps in mobility for the visually impaired, promoting a safer and more autonomous lifestyle. With its user-centric design and innovative application of visual processing, this navigation aid aspires to be a practical and impactful tool in enhancing the independence and confidence of its users.
