Abstract

This paper analyzes the digital identity construction of elderly users based on 86 videos published by TikTok blogger “Grandma Meiying”. The study found that the keywords of “self-discipline” and “high energy” covered 87% of the videos, accounting for 94% of the popular videos (video with more than 100,000 likes), combined with high-frequency scene symbols such as “family scene” (97%) and “kitchen” (97%), to shape the core identity of “family devotees”. Keywords such as “sacrificial activities” (63.6%) and “taking care of great-grandchildren” (60.6%) in popular videos were significantly higher than those in ordinary videos, and regional cultural identity was strengthened through “dialects” (31.4%) and “sacrificial scenes” (27.3%). Although the latter product placement attempts to break through, the core content still relies on “housework”, “intergenerational”, and “traditional”. While constructing digital identity through a stable symbolic system, elderly users face the challenges of aesthetic fatigue and identity solidification.
