Abstract

In the governance of a unified multi-ethnic country, properly handling ethnic relations is of vital importance. As an important group in China’s social structure, the interpersonal communication skills of minority college students not only concern the improvement of their personal comprehensive qualities, but also are closely related to ethnic unity and progress, social harmony and stability, as well as the long-term development of the country. Based on the perspective of ethnic unity education and through the use of questionnaires, interviews, and participant observation methods, this study found that minority college students face unique challenges in interpersonal communication. Influenced by factors such as the intergenerational transmission gap of language capital, objective conditions, and the impact of modernity, they exhibit strong closed social circles, insufficient ability to cope with social situations, lack of initiative in expanding interpersonal networks, and weak emotional expression and communication skills. On this basis, relevant countermeasures for enhancing the interpersonal communication skills of minority college students through group work intervention are proposed.
