Abstract

The creative industry, a key driver of innovation-based economic expansion, holds significant potential for sustainable advancement in Palembang City. This study delves into how job crafting and employee performance influence organizational support, a cornerstone for sustainable development in the creative economy. Job crafting, the proactive modification of tasks, work relations, and perceptions, plays a crucial role in enhancing engagement and productivity. The research, conducted through a quantitative survey of 150 workers across creative subsectors, applied Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) through Smart PLS 4.0. The findings reveal that job crafting positively and significantly affects employee performance (p < 0.05) and indirectly strengthens perceived organizational support. Employee performance, in turn, directly contributes to higher perceived organizational backing, reinforcing adherence to sustainability principles such as resource efficiency, eco-innovation, and social inclusion. Organizational support mediates the linkage between job crafting and employees’ contributions to sustainable objectives. The study underscores managerial practices that promote active job crafting and supportive work environments, highlighting the importance of each individual’s role in the process. It suggests adaptive organizational policies, creativity-oriented training, and reward mechanisms valuing personal initiative. Thus, Palembang’s creative industries may evolve not only economically but also socially and ecologically in line with sustainable development goals. Theoretically, this research integrates job crafting, employee performance, and organizational support concepts in the creative-industry context.
