Abstract

This paper explores the sustainable development of mutual assistance-based elderly care in rural areas against the backdrop of population aging. With the acceleration of China’s aging process, the issue of elderly care in rural areas has become increasingly prominent, and mutual assistance-based elderly care has emerged as a new model. This paper first analyzes the concept, characteristics, and theoretical basis of mutual assistance-based elderly care in rural areas, and then delves into the impact of population aging on rural elderly care and the current situation and problems of mutual assistance-based elderly care. On this basis, it proposes countermeasures and suggestions for promoting the sustainable development of mutual assistance-based elderly care in rural areas, including policy support, resource integration, cultural cultivation, and model innovation. The research shows that the mutual assistance-based elderly care model has advantages such as low cost, high flexibility, and full utilization of social capital, and is an important way to achieve sustainable development of elderly care in rural areas.
