- Abstract
In China, as all museums becoming more regularly visited by people, art museums stand out with the different naming and the undefinability of emerging contemporary art. With an independent concept generation history of “art museum” and a complex current situation of exhibition curation, the unrestricted naming of “art museum” further pushes them to compete with companies with exhibition-making. This paper focuses on the reasons behind the art exhibitions, which are appealing to audiences yet lack of connotation and coherence, in some art museums. By combining literature analysis and a case study, this paper aims to understand the promoting factors of the art exhibitions, and give a perspective from the exhibition aspect of the possible crisis of art museums in China. It is suggested that implementing more comprehensive policies as well as uniting all factors from the art and culture industry would have positive impact on exhibition making and the sustainable development of art museums in China.
