- Abstract
Migrant children are children aged between 0 and 17 in the migrant population. Using the literature review method, this paper examines the role of family dynamics in shaping the developmental outcome of migrant children. These children face barriers primarily due to the Hukou system, which restricts their access to social services, especially in education. Without local Hukou, migrant children often attend underfunded migrant schools, resulting in educational inequalities. Family dynamics can influence migrant children’s personal development in following ways: (1) Parental warmth / Parent-child relationship (2) Socioeconomic support (3) Academic support (4) Parenting style. Migrant children’s academic outcomes and well-being could be further influenced by socioeconomic support, parent-child relationship, and living condition. This study suggests that policy makers should focus on improving the economic security of migrant families, enhancing educational opportunities, and providing psychological support to both children and their parents to promote academic outcomes and social well-being.
