- Abstract
This study analyses the character images in “A Dream of the Red Mansion” from the perspective of career economics in Confucian culture, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of its theme. Existing research either uses the concept of career economics to explore other topics or simply focuses on textual studies. This study, however, combines specificity and depth, examining the characters and themes of this novel through the lens of career economics, thereby exploring the choices of reclusion and engagement among ancient Chinese literati and interpreting the dialectical unity between personal life and society.
