Abstract

As electric vehicles become more widespread, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) is an innovative model for electric vehicles and power grids to work together. Through technologies such as bidirectional charging and discharging, V2G provides new ways to help power systems with peak load management, renewable energy integration, and increased user benefits. However, its large-scale application faces key challenges, including high equipment costs, lack of battery quality assurance, incomplete grid-connection metering and settlement systems, immature electricity pricing policies and business models, and an incomplete standards system.

This paper addresses the aforementioned challenges by proposing a series of breakthrough strategies, including equipment purchase subsidies, specialized warranty research for power batteries, innovative grid connection metering and settlement mechanisms, electricity price incentives, the development of diversified business models, and the establishment of an interoperability standards framework. Taking Guangzhou as an example, the paper calculates the V2G benefits for all participating parties. Taking a typical electric vehicle with a battery capacity of 70 kWh as an example, the benefits of private V2G mode and industrial park V2G mode are calculated by constraining the number of discharges over the battery’s entire life cycle. In the private mode, the V2G charging station has a low discharge power and serves only one user, with the benefits enjoyed exclusively by the user. In the industrial park V2G mode, the V2G charging station has a high discharge power and serves all users within the park, but part of the benefits are shared with the operator. The results show that regardless of the mode, users can obtain approximately 20,000 yuan in benefits over the entire life cycle. If the vehicle price is low, the V2G function has strong appeal to users; although the government may incur negative returns due to initial subsidies, it can achieve returns in the long term through industrial chain development and taxes; in the industrial park mode, operators can also obtain more profits by constructing V2G charging stations. In summary, the development of V2G enables all participating parties to achieve benefits and holds significant potential for future growth.
