- Abstract
This study investigates BYD’s entry into Thailand’s electric vehicle (EV) market through quantitative and qualitative analysis, focusing on market demand, competitive dynamics, and strategic decision-making. Findings reveal that Thailand’s EV market is driven by government policies (e.g., the “EV 3.5 Plan”), consumer demand for eco-friendly and low-cost mobility, and technological advancements, though traditional fuel vehicles still dominate. BYD has secured a 38.5% market share (2024) through technological leadership (e.g., blade batteries), cost efficiency (20%-lower vehicle costs than Japanese competitors), and localization strategies (e.g., right-hand-drive models). While Thailand’s EV market shows significant growth potential (targeting 30% EV penetration by 2030), challenges include policy uncertainties, insufficient charging infrastructure, and competition from Japanese hybrids. This research offers theoretical and practical insights for Chinese EV manufacturers expanding into Southeast Asia.
