Abstract

Current equipment maintenance training faces multiple challenges, including a complex knowledge system, strong practical requirements, and high demands for multi-role collaboration. The absence of real maintenance environments leads to difficulties in learning transfer, while single-role training prevents students from developing comprehensive maintenance capabilities. With the advancement of VR/AR/MR technologies, it has become feasible to construct hybrid virtual-physical immersive training environments. However, how to effectively organize multi-role switching learning within such environments still requires systematic design. This study proposes a contextual teaching model based on a multi-role interchange mechanism. By creating an immersive, scaffolded, and interactive maintenance context that integrates virtual and real elements, the model facilitates the deep integration of knowledge, skills, and situational awareness, promoting students’ role immersion and collaboration within authentic maintenance workflows. Experiments demonstrate that this model improves students’ fault diagnosis accuracy, team collaboration efficiency, and job competency, offering a new pathway for the reform of equipment maintenance training.
