Abstract

The management of human resources in a hospital is not an easy matter, especially when it comes to the challenges that appear in this new normal era of Covid-19. Nurses are a very important part of the hospital. Hospitals should always be focused on the contributions and the best achievements of nurses in providing health services for their patients. Therefore, hospitals should always encourage employee engagement among their nurses. This research aims to determine the effect of transformational leadership and the health protocols of Covid-19 on employee engagement of nurses in Padang city in the new normal era with organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) is used as a mediating in this research. This research was conducted among nurses in Padang, with 180 responses from the nurses. The analysis of the data was done by using SmartPLS 3.0. The result shows that there are significant effects found in several areas. First, the significant effect of transformational leadership is found on employee engagement. Second, the significant effect of transformational leadership is also found on OCB. Third, a significant effect of the Covid-19 health protocol is found on employee engagement. Fourth, the Covid-19 health protocol affects OCB. Fifth, OCB has a significant effect on employee engagement. Sixth, OCB has a significant effect in mediating transformational leadership on employee engagement. Seventh, OCB has a significant effect in mediating the Covid-19 health protocol on employee engagement.
