Abstract

Games, a key way for people to connect, have evolved into booming online games today. They drive economic growth, transform entertainment, and serve as a bridge for cultural exchange. However, embedding Chinese culture in games is vital for cultural “going global”, despite China’s success in developing many online games, few effectively incorporate excellent Chinese culture, leading to missed cultural dissemination opportunities. Therefore, achieving a win-win in market and cultural benefits through online games is an urgent issue.

In the new era, enhancing China’s international communication capabilities and realizing the “going global” of excellent traditional Chinese culture are crucial for strengthening China’s comprehensive national strength and international influence. Online games, along with music and short videos, have become significant carriers for Chinese cultural output.

This article focuses on the success factors of “Genshin Impact” in both domestic and overseas markets, analyzing its features, popularity, and appeal to overseas players. The aim is to understand the role of online games in expanding diplomatic channels and enhancing China’s international cultural soft power, and to provide insights for other Chinese game companies’ overseas expansion.
