Abstract

In conventional Ayurvedic product production, quality control is a perennial issue because batch processing is manual and raw material show inherent variability. The current research offers a semi-automated system combining non-contact infrared temperature measurement and RGB camera image analysis to track and control important parameters in the process. A temperature sensor (MLX90614) facilitates accurate thermal control during decoction to preserve medicinal properties without contamination. In parallel, an RGB camera records real-time color images of the herbal blend to analyze color changes—a critical determinant of product maturity. Using template matching and average pixel analysis, the system determines whether the product is immature or mature. The system was also validated with Neelibringadi Thailem preparation samples and showed enhanced batch consistency, less dependence on subjective human observation, and a scalable route to updating traditional Ayurvedic processes without authenticity loss. This automation strategy has huge promise for industrial implementation in quality-focused herbal medicine production.
