Abstract

Heritage structures are just old buildings, they demonstrate our cultural, and architectural history. Due to natural wear, environmental and seismic activities these structures weaken as the time passes. Preserving these structure means preserving our history. However, it poses a challenge to the conservation engineers because they must keep the originality of the structure and make them stronger to withstand the threats for so many more years. This demands. Innovative restoration techniques. Among the materials now being used, stainless steel stands out due to its exceptional corrosion resistance, strength, and long-term sustainability. While its initial cost may be higher, the significantly lower life-cycle cost makes it a choice material for heritage rehabilitation. This paper discusses the pivotal role stainless steel plays in restoring heritage buildings, supported by case studies from India and around the world. It also discusses regulatory frameworks along with the sustainability approach. Ultimately, stainless steel proves to be a durable, discreet, and economically sound choice for safeguarding these structures for future generations, showcasing our history.
