Abstract

Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) are fundamental tools in high-energy physics, providing insights into the momentum distribution of quarks and gluons within hadrons. They denote the probability density of finding a parton of type i carrying a momentum fraction x of the hadron’s momentum at an energy scale Q2. These functions are crucial for predicting cross-sections and understanding hadronic structure. PDFs are determined through global fits to experimental data, which include deep inelastic scattering (DIS) and hadron collider experiments. Mellin moments of PDFs offer a simplified approach to analyzing these distributions by transforming their x-dependence into n-dependence, which facilitates theoretical calculations and experimental comparisons. This paper explores the significance of Mellin moments in both the context of high-energy physics and their broader implications for sustainable science and technology. We discuss the theoretical framework of PDFs and Mellin moments, highlighting their roles in understanding hadronic structure and their utility in perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). We elaborate on current calculation techniques, including numerical integration methods and analytical approaches, emphasizing advancements that enhance accuracy and computational efficiency. By aligning high-energy physics research with sustainable practices, we can contribute to a more efficient and environmentally responsible future.
