- Abstract
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) are commonly prescribed for the treatment of acid-related disorders; however, prolonged use of these medications is associated with various adverse drug reactions (ADRs) that can have significant implications for patient health. This prospective observational study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital from June to November 2024. 400 patients were observed. The objective of this study were to perform a cost-minimization analysis by comparing the branded and generic PPIs of both Intravenous and oral route of administration, and also to identify Adverse drug reactions associated with Proton Pump Inhibitors. The cost- minimization analysis was performed through t-test by using SPSS-16 software. The results shows that the use of generic Proton Pump Inhibitors was found to be more economical. A novel “Proton Pump Inhibitor Adverse Drug Reaction Awarenesss and Severity Scoring Matrix” was developed as part of this study. This scale was uniquely employed in scoring awareness of patients of Adverse drug reactions caused by PPIs.
