Abstract

Financial inclusion is a crucial element of sustainability, especially in emerging economies with policies that entail providing equitable access to financial services for individuals and businesses to expand the opportunities for vulnerable individuals, small investment projects and diversify financial risk. Respectively, financial inclusion would be a path for achieving sustainable development goals through fostering inclusive economic growth, enhancing financial security, and mitigating the adverse impacts of financial exclusion. Technology advancements have led to the introduction of new payment services such as digital wallets, electronic payment platforms and mobile money. Such digital payments play a vital role in achieving financial inclusion particularly post the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to nations taking prompt action to provide individuals with a means of conducting their daily transactions smoothly, so the shift to digital payments. Issues such as limited internet connectivity, lack of a proper digital infrastructure and low financial literacy arise in developing nations. Thus, the researcher decided to examine digital payment users’ intention, giving implications for business owners and policy makers. The paper would document how the pandemic changed consumer behavior. This study will employ Technology Acceptance Model [TAM] to identify the determinants of digital payments use intention among individuals in the Egyptian economy adopting a quantitative exploratory one, employing the PLS-SEM. A survey was used to collect the data using snowball sampling and the findings supported the hypotheses proposed regarding how the TAM variables affected perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, so influencing the intention to adopt digital payments in Egypt.
