Abstract

This paper discusses the historical context, development stage and characteristics of French diplomacy in international organizations. As a traditional power in Europe and an important player in the global political arena, France’s international organization diplomacy profoundly reflects France’s diplomatic strategy and global status, and has a profound impact on the evolution of the international political and economic pattern. By analyzing the role, status and influence of France in different international organizations, this paper reveals how France realizes its national interests and international ambition through international organization diplomacy. In history, French international organization diplomacy has experienced from initial stage, to dominance stage, to relative decline and marginalization, then independence and re-emergence, and finally into the stage of maintenance and development. Each stage reflects France’s adaptation to in the international situation and changes in national power and international status. Especially after World War II, the diplomacy of international organizations played a key role in promoting European integration and addressing global challenges. This paper finds that the characteristics of France’s international organization diplomacy lie in the organic combination of its Strategic Autonomy, Eurocentrism nature and Globalism, and its insistence on multilateralism. By constantly adjusting its diplomatic strategy of international organizations, France adapts to the changes in the international situation and maintains its great power status and international interests.
