- Abstract
In recent years, film and television works have played an important role in reflecting social reality and portraying the lives of marginalized groups, gradually becoming an artistic medium for revealing social problems and conveying humanistic care. Taking Return to Dust as an example, this paper explores the social and cultural communication function of the film and the value of the public discussion it triggers. Through delicate narrative techniques and a realistic image style, this film profoundly demonstrates the survival situation and resilience of marginalized people in the countryside. Additionally, the paper analyzes the film in terms of narrative techniques, characterization, cultural value expression, and social impact, examining how the film, through its plain visual language and emotional resonance, draws the audience’s attention to social issues such as rural poverty and gender inequality. By employing slow pacing and long shots, the film highlights the repression and struggle in the protagonists’ lives, thereby conveying a deep respect and compassion for life.
